Gender inequality Is Your Issue Too Emma Watson

Gender inequality and feminism are important themes in Emma Watson's speech In her address at the United Nations on September 20, 2014, British actor Emma Watson formally invited men to join and support the 'HeForShe movement led by women for gender equality. She explains how conventional gender roles contribute to the creation and maintenance of gender inequality and led to patriarchal hegemony

Emma Watson establishes herself as a genuine and reliable speaker, and she effectively communicates her message by establishing a trusting relationship with the audience Watson establishes trust by acknowledging both her strengths (strong ideas about gender equality and personal experiences) and her weaknesses (lack of experience as a UN Goodwill Ambassador), Watson uses a variety of linguistic strategies and thetorical methods to engage the audience, which mesmerised everyone, who is attending the UN Women's conference or watching it on television or online.

In the beginning, she uses short sentences to grab the audience's attention. She employs a variety of repeats and enumerations to ensure that her points are remembered and emphasised. She also uses all three types of appeal to engage the audience, ethos pathos, and logos. This means she elicits emotional responses from the audience, leads them to draw logical conclusions, and inspires them to believe in her and themselves as capable of bringing about and supporting gender equality.

The speech is also directed towards boys and men because it is the inaugural speech for the UN campaign "HeForShe", which aims to be to engage men and boys in campaigning for women's rights. The speaker's aim appears to be encourage the target audience participate action and promote gender equality in accordance with the UN campaign, based on the circumstances of the speech.

In addition, Watson's goal is to define feminism and gender equality, give awareness about the harmful consequences of gender discrimination, and help the audience realise why action is required. She further clarifies that feminism never intended to hate men
